Aromas of berries and mushrooms with some fresh herbs. Some currants, too. Medium body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. 75% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec. Very drinkable now, but will age beautifully. Best after 2023.

Winemaker Notes
The story of Chateau de Pitray is a fascinating one; believe it or not, the current generation is headed by Jean de Boigne who represents the 25th generation in the same winemaking family. In fact, the chateau has been with the same family for more than 600 years! The castle is exactly what you would anticipate from a family and property of this age in Bordeaux, evoking both romanticism and grandeur. While Jean does carry on the steep responsibility of his family legacy and tradition, the real shocker is the price tag of their wines. Just about 4 miles away, the land in St. Emilion is about ten times the price point as it is in Castillon.
This is classic Right Bank Bordeaux, a blend of both the mainstay in this region–Merlot and supported by a bit of Cabernet Franc. The wine ages in both steel and various types of oak–both used and new.
