Head High was founded in 2015 by Bill Price, a longtime Sonoma vintner and owner of respected properties such as Gap’s Crown and Durrell Vineyard, who set out to spotlight the county’s cool-climate potential while channeling his lifelong passion for surfing into the brand’s identity. The winery sources its fruit from growers across Sonoma County who share a commitment to quality and coastal character, and a portion of proceeds supports ocean conservation efforts, tying the label’s ethos directly to its roots.
For the 2022 vintage, fruit was drawn from multiple Sonoma County vineyards chosen for their varying microclimates and clonal selections, allowing the finished wine to reflect the diversity of the region rather than a single site. The Chardonnay was fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel, with malolactic fermentation intentionally blocked to preserve brightness and natural acidity, keeping the winemaking approach minimal so the fruit itself remains the focus.
This is a medium to full-bodied Chardonnay showing ripe pear, green apple, and white peach alongside notes of melon and citrus zest, with a crisp, lively backbone and a clean, dry finish. The unoaked style keeps the fruit forward and refreshing. It pairs nicely with grilled shellfish, roast turkey, or a simple herbed pasta.
