Variety: Pinot Noir
Amelie Berthaut has almost single-handedly revived the name of Fixin. Once prized for pinot noir, the village has become overshadowed by neighbors Marsannay, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanee and Chambolle-Musigny. This is a somewhat odd development as Fixin was considered the equivalent of Gevrey in the 19th century. However, the lack of a consistent leading domaine in the village allowed the name to slip into obscurity. Amelie has arrived to change that. Combining her mother’s and father’s established names to create her own domaine, she operates her estate fully organically and committed to the vineyard, Berthaut-Gerbet leans into the poetic aspects of pinot noir.
This fruit comes from two parcels: Reas and la Riviere, totaling 1.2 hectares. The fruit is fully destemmed and undergoes primary fermentation in cement. Malolactic fermentation occurs after being transferred to barrels. Aging occurs in 1/3 new oak.
